Parents for Quality Education is hosting a Virtual Town Hall on June 24 from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. We will hear from five panelists representing a diverse group impacted by school closures.

Panelists include representatives of vulnerable communities that include English-learners and special education programs hard-hit by school closures and distance learning programs due to COVID19.

Introducing the Panelist

Tom Keliinoi “TK” – Moderator

TK currently serves as President of Parents for Quality Education. TK served as a founding member, board chairman, and chief financial officer of Elevate Schools. Elevate is a San Diego Unified public charter school that received distinction as a California Distinguished School four years after opening. Elevate serves elementary and middle school students at multiple campuses in San Diego.

A native Hawaiian growing up in an economically-challenged environment, he moved to San Diego, where he managed a successful career while serving in management and executive roles for companies like AT&T, MaCom Linkabit, Digital Switch Corporation, Qualcomm, and Indigenous Software. Elected office include serving multiple terms as Commercial Director of the Tierrasanta Community Council.

Dr. David Miyashiro – Superintendent, Cajon Valley Union School District

Dr. David Miyashiro currently serves as Superintendent of the Cajon Valley Union School District. David was named 2016 Superintendent of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators Region 18. With David’s leadership, Cajon Valley has undergone a seamless transition to the digital age. https://youtu.be/_oAoTdQ80XI

Lallia Allali – English Learning

Lallia Allali is a leadership coach and a member of The San Diego Union-Tribune Community Advisory Board. Lallia is a staunch advocate for educational excellence and parental involvement in the SDUSD system since her children entered the school system.
She is deeply committed to the education of the whole child in a safe and nurturing environment. She has been a powerful voice for countering bullying, improving school climates, and bringing to light bigotry focused on the Muslim student population.

Her most recent accomplishment has been the creation and publishing of “Born Here,” a beautiful pictorial essay of the Muslim American life that challenges readers’ preconceptions. The book was released at the 2019 DEEP Summer Reading series and garnered praise from many readers.

Nicki Lewis – Special Education

Nicki Lewis, MS./M.A, CCC-SLP,  is a special education administrator for the El Dorado County Office of Education, specifically its Charter SELPA division. El Dorado County Office of Education is the largest Charter SELPA in the state of California, supporting over 200 partners, operating more than 400 charter schools, and representing over 100,000 students.

Nicki has over 13 years of experience in special education that includes public charter schools and private practice. She currently serves as a speech and language pathologist and special education administrator. Her range of expertise includes speech and language treatment, assessment and diagnosis, special education program development and advocacy, and legal compliance.  

Jasmine L. Sadler – BAPAC and STEAM Consultant

Trained as a rocket scientist and ballerina, Ms. Jasmine L. Sadler, MBA lives her life on purpose through her company, The STEAM Collaborative, which focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) from an artistic perspective. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Ms. Jasmine graduated in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan.  

Now in San Diego, California, her focus is to educate Girls and African American students in dance, math, engineering, and entrepreneurship.  For more info or inquiries on collaborating, follow and message Jasmine @theSTEAMcollab.

Ashley Lewis – Professional, education advocate, SDUSD parent

Ashley Lewis is the parent of two children in the San Diego Unified School District and sits on the board of the Ocean Beach Elementary PTA. She is an advocate for public schools with a keen interest in special education as the mother of a child with an IEP. A former naval officer, Ashley’s lifelong commitment to service now extends to her children’s school, where she volunteers hundreds of hours each year.

In her professional life, she is a graphic designer and marketing consultant who works with nonprofit organizations and local businesses that are committed to serving the common good.
