Dear Parents and Education Advocates,

CVE to PQE Brand Transition

In order to focus our actions where they’re needed most, Parents for Quality Education (PQE) has decided to absorb Community Voices for Education (CVE) initiatives. As we move forward to pursue our mission: https://parentsforqualityeducation.org/our-mission/, previous CVE projects and all relevant political action, advocation, and community efforts will be handled by Parents for Quality Education, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization.

PQE recently elected our 2019- 2020 Board Members and Officers. We thank and greatly appreciated the hard work, commitment and dedication of Bret Caslavka, PQE former President, who led us for over 3 years in our efforts to bring School Board Election reform in San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD). Our newly elected President is Tom Keliinoi. “TK” has a proven track record to bring change for our continued drive for quality education for every student in the SDUSD.

District Only Elections for San Diego Unified – California’s 2ndlargest school district

PQE’s involvement in SDUSD began when we launched CVE’s project of advocating District Only Election and term limits for School Board Members. Our persistence paid off when our leadership forced the City to place Term limits on the 2018 ballot and it passed.

PQE is finishing what it started by assuring the California Voting Rights Act (CVRA) will be implemented through District Only elections. Although the San Diego City Council’s Rules Committee voted unanimously to recommend placement of a ballot initiative for District Only Election for School Board, this is going to be a long process.

In September 2018, PQE filed a lawsuit against the City of San Diego for violating the California Voting Rights Act. Our legal team has presented the case to the assigned Judge and we expect a hearing date by July 2020.  Winning this legal battle will finally assure all communities have fair and accurate representation to San Diego’s public education system and place the interest of our kids first.

Sincerely,
